2012-13 Short-Term Study Away Policies and Procedures

GENERAL INFORMATION: Applications for Exploration Seminars, May Seminars, Summer School Abroad and Summer Field Studies will be available online following the Global Learning Expo. Applications for these programs are due back to the Office of Global Education by Friday, November 16, 2012.

The seminar itineraries and prices listed on this website are current as of September 2012. Global Learning tries in every possible way to keep costs down. Unfortunately, cost factors that have a great impact on our prices, such as currency fluctuation and airline fuel surcharges, are completely outside of our control. Global Learning will keep deposited participants informed of itinerary changes and/or price increases. Price increases will not exceed 5 percent of the listed price. Costs are fairly comprehensive and include the following:

  • Roundtrip airfare, group transportation costs, hotel accommodations, guide and museum fees, some theatre tickets, some group meals, airport taxes, transfer fees and all instructional fees.
  • May Seminar, Summer School Abroad and Summer Field Studies participants pay summer school tuition whether or not they are taking the seminar for credit. Hotel costs are based on multiple-occupancy rooms in established budget hotels, generally located close to key study sites and with breakfasts included. For reasons of economy, two, three or occasionally four people will share a room. Shared baths/showers are common in overseas hotels.

Because each seminar is dependent on public transportation schedules and the good graces of other organizations (e.g., museums, research institutes, universities, etc.), itineraries may be subject to change.

NOT INCLUDED: Program costs do not include the costs of lunches and most dinners, personal purchases, personal travel during free time, or passport and visa costs. Individual spending habits vary, so use your best judgment about how much money to bring with you.

FINANCIAL AID information and request form will be available with program application.

PAYMENTS
: The deposit fee for Spring Exploration Seminars, May Seminars, Summer School Abroad and Summer Field Studies is $600. This deposit is due before your application can be accepted. All payments are made at the Business Office in Lorentzsen Hall. The complete payment schedule and cancellation policy will be given to you with your program application.

Cancellations for any reason will follow the appropriate program's cancellation policy. The timetable attached to the program application outlines the specific policy for that program.

FINAL BILLING
will be mailed out approximately one month before departure. Please note that the full cost of your seminar must be paid prior to departure.

PASSPORT APPLICATIONS
and general travel information are available on the Student Information & Resources page.

SAFETY
: At Concordia, we believe that world travel and immersion in other cultures are excellent ways to start a lifelong journey toward a better world of mutual understanding, tolerance, peace and appreciation of the uniqueness of all people. Our number one concern, however, is the safety of our students while abroad. We continually monitor world events and U.S. State Department warnings about possible destinations. Our policy is to exercise care and diligence in analysis and response, and we are ready to change itineraries or bring individuals and seminars home should safety problems arise.
