Africa/Middle East

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem opened its first program for international students in 1955 with 22 American students. Since then, the programs for students from abroad have been steadily expanded and the number of courses offered greatly increased. The Rothberg International School is the international study center of the Hebrew University with courses designed to open your mind to new areas of knowledge and inquiry.  Students will be required to take Modern Hebrew as part of the academic program.  Areas of study include arts, music, neuroscience, religion, Israeli and Middle Eastern studies, among others.

University of Dar es Salaam, Lutheran College Consortium for Tanzania (LCCT)
Enclave | Fall | 2.5 GPA required | Language of instruction: English

Each fall semester, students from Concordia, Luther, St Olaf, and PLU (LCCT: Lutheran College Consortium for Tanzania) journey to Tanzania to study at the University of Dar es Salaam. Arriving in early August, students participate in an exciting and comprehensive orientation led by a consortium professor. Though varying year to year, the orientation usually includes studying Tanzanian culture and life, visiting rural villages, and a safari to one of Tanzania's national parks. Students take a 3-4 week course in Swahili and they have opportunities for independent travel-climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, visiting Ngorongoro, or sailing to Zanzibar are some of the possibilities. At UDSM, students take four courses: three of their choice, plus a research course designed by LCCT. All courses are taught in English. This rich and stimulating semester abroad in Tanzania provides a unique combination of a faculty-led orientation and direct enrollment at a Tanzanian university.

Asia

This program gives you the chance to learn first-hand about current issues in developing countries. You will be in contact with people who work every day to improve living conditions in India.  Classes use an "action-reflection" model of learning. Each topic is introduced with an in-class orientation lecture series on broad themes on the subject as well as specific issues affecting local communities. Next, students travel to selected sites to learn directly about the subject from and with people who are actually being affected, and those who are working as agents of change.

Take part in the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between mainland China and Hong Kong. United International College (UIC) is building a new model for liberal education in China and working to nurture talented future graduates with international perspectives. Heavy emphasis is given to "learning through experience" and "learning through practice," after which reflection and understanding will naturally follow. UIC is situated in Zhuhai and is jointly founded by Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University.

Immerse yourself in Chinese language and culture at Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) which is located in Chongqing, one of the five most important cities in China designated by the Chinese Central government. The Chinese program for international students was well established 30 years ago with seasoned faculty who specialize in teaching international students Chinese. In partnership with Concordia College, SISU is committed to offering quality Chinese program for Concordia College students. Culture related activities are also designed and offered as an indispensable part of the language program there.

Be a part of the exciting greater metropolitan area of Tokyo, Japan, while studying Japanese language and culture, business, history, sociology, and ESL. Study for one academic year (September-July) at Kanda University of International Studies. Easy access is available by train to Makuhari beach, Tokyo Tower, Ueno Park, and more. Spring break is from early February to late March, a great opportunity for local or country-wide exploration. At least two years of Japanese language study is required for participation.

Experience Christianity in a new light! Study four undergraduate-level religion courses at the Lutheran Theological Seminary (LTS) in Hong Kong, and gain an opportunity to see the international Christian mission first-hand in one of the most energetic and internationally-oriented cities in the world. LTS strives to prepare men and women from throughout the world for leadership roles in an atmosphere of ecumenical unity, vibrant worship, energetic service, and a welcoming and supportive fellowship.  Students take 12 credits of classes at LTS and a 4 credit independent study with the faculty advisor.

The Jena Program enables students to study abroad for an academic year in Germany. Students will study at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität, where they can take course in German language and culture as well as fulfill core requirements and take courses in their majors and minors. Students participate in a week long immersion program with other international students and take a Language Placement Assessment prior to the beginning of the semester. Jena is situated on the edge of the Thuringian Forest in the former East Germany, a wonderful area for hiking, castle visits, and excursions through Germany and Europe. Students also have the opportunity to engage in culturally enriched day trips to gain further understanding of German history and modern life.

Explore the experience of working abroad while continuing International Business and German coursework. 
The spring semester of your Junior or Senior year is an opportunity for a two-part experience: a three-month internship at a German firm focusing on your area of specialization followed by a semester of study at the Johannes Gutenberg Universität, Mainz. As the capital of the West of Ireland, Galway is situated on a lovely bay, boasts one of the finest European art festivals, and remains the heart and soul of Celtic Ireland. It is also a convenient hop to Europe for break weekends. Irish Archaeology and Irish Literature courses taught regularly at NUI-Galway are also part of our Core, with credits in the Humanities, Arts, and International Perspectives. With a shared focus and strength in the sciences, Concordia science students also are welcomed to study at NUI-Galway.

Centro de Estudio Hispánicos de Segovia, Spain

Immerse yourself in the language, culture and lifestyle of Segovia, Spain. Interact with local students and families through homestays. While spending a semester in Spain, you'll travel to Madrid, Andalucía, Barcelona and regional areas of interest. At the Center for Hispanic Studies, located in a renovated 15th century mansion, an on-site director and first-rate local professors teach all classes in Spanish. Segovia is a quaint, modern city located just an hour from Madrid that offers numerous historic sites, castles and museums. Though geared toward Spanish majors, the semester in Segovia is open to any student who has completed Spanish 212.

Spanish Studies Abroad (SSA) offers a Spanish Mediterranean immersion experience in Alicante. It is a friendly and welcoming city with many opportunities to meet Spanish students and enjoy the local culture. SSA students study onsite at Universidad de Alicante, which allows students at any Spanish language level the opportunity to become integrated into Spanish student life. Students live with host families in Alicante. In addition to a wide range of course offerings through SSA, students may be eligible to attend courses at the Universidad de Alicante. With a strict policy of "Sólo en español," Spanish Studies Abroad (SSA) offers a rich traditional Spanish Immersion experience in Seville. The city fully embodies the spirit of traditional southern Spanish culture, from flamenco to bullfighting to winding ancient cobblestone streets. The Center in Seville provides a large variety of academic choices, yet provides a great deal of attention to individual students needs. In addition to a wide range of course offerings through SSA, students may be eligible to attend courses at the Universidad de Sevilla. Internships and scholarships are also available.

Hedmark University College is located in the south-eastern part of Norway, approximately 2 hours drive north of Oslo. With more than 5000 students it is one of the largest university colleges in Norway. The college provides high standards and modern research-based teaching. Social work majors, here is the program for you! Study each fall at Diakonhjemmet University College located in vibrant Oslo, Norway. DUC is a private educational institution for social work studies which aims to practice a holistic philosophy, viewing the human being as a unity of spirit, soul and body. The college stresses the importance of interdisciplinary expertise, and makes every effort to combine professional and academic aspirations with practical application. You can earn credit toward your social work degree while gaining international experience and perspective. Diakonhjemmet University College has a student population of roughly 2000 students; the campus is located in a beautiful neighborhood just west of downtown Olso. Join 550 students from over 90 countries and experience the splendors of summer in Norway at the Oslo International Summer School. Studying and living with students from all over the world contributes to a unique cultural experience. The ISS offers a variety of courses in the arts and social sciences, an extensive social program and weekend travel excursions as part of the basic fee. Norwegian language courses are offered for all levels of learners.

Liverpool Hope is a liberal arts university distinguished by its foundation of an Anglican college and a Catholic college working together and eventually merging to form one educational community. It has a proud tradition of 165 years in higher education. In addition to the main campus at Hope Park, the Cornerstone performing arts campus is located in vibrant downtown Liverpool. Courses are offered in a wide spectrum of subjects. Students will live on campus, sharing flats with English and international students. Liverpool is an 800-year-old city on the northwest coast of England.  It is a student city, a safe city, and a city with endless cultural offerings. Having been recently awarded a Cultural Capital of Europe, Liverpool is a fascinating destination. For those looking to explore further, transportation to London or other European cities is easily accessible.

Latin America

If you have proficient language skills in Spanish and an interest in international business, this is the perfect program for you. Located in the expanding metropolis of Mexico City, this program focuses on internships with international corporations and is available in either the fall or spring semester. You will also take two full business courses at the University of the Americas. There are three primary internship locations: the analysis department of a multinational financial corporation where students work with international stocks and bonds, cash management and currency markets; in the departments of publications, international trade, and economics at the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico; and at a marketing group where students learn to design surveys, gather and analyze statistical data, and write market studies for a firm that manages a chain of luxury hotels throughout Latin America.

You will be able to witness firsthand the challenges for sustainability that exist in the region and the efforts that are underway to ensure sustainable human development and a dignified quality of life for all its inhabitants. Two fall programs of study are available: Human Rights, Society, and Development in Latin America; and Environment, Sustainability, and Development in Latin America. Spanish Studies Abroad (SSA) students in Córdoba study on-site at Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC) and benefit from guided direct enrollment. Founded by the Jesuits in 1613, UNC's history is closely intertwined with the city of Córdoba. Located in the center of historic downtown, it is home to rich historical sites, architecture, and resources, such as the old rectorado building and a rare book collection unique in the Americas. Students also have easy access to museums, theater, nightlife, shopping, and public transportation.

The ACM Chicago Program engages students academically, professionally, and personally with this dynamic city.  The primary areas of emphasis in the program are Arts, Entrepreneurship, and Urban Studies - students have the opportunity to explore one of these topics in depth, or participate in classwork and projects across these disciplines. Students are able to explore the vital issues facing cities and the people who live and work in them, while digging deeper to relate these issues to their personal lives, education, and career aspirations.

Take classes in global policy, art and architecture, political communication and American diversity while interning at businesses throughout Washington, D.C., including the Smithsonian Institute, the National Wildlife Federation or even the U.S. Senate. One day a week is designated for field trips, tours, briefings and other exciting sites around the capital. Located in Rosslyn, Virginia on the edge of Washington, DC, LCWS is a small, personalized program where students live, study, and intern while earning academic credit from their college. This program was founded in 1986 by a group of Lutheran colleges to provide a quality residential Washington, DC semester exclusively for their students.
