Social Security
Information from the Social Security Administration is available online. It is possible for F-1 students who will work on campus to apply for and receive a US social security number. To apply, please take these materials with you to the social security office (Federal Building/Post Office, 657 2nd Avenue N, #320, Fargo, ND 58102, 701.239.5607):
- Passport including US visa
- I-20
- I-94 entry card (may be stapled inside passport
- Evidence of being employed and in F-1 status (complete attached form)
- Completed social security application

Office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, and Wednesday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. When applying for an SSN, Make sure you arrive before 2:30 pm to allow enough time to complete the application.While a social security number may be handy and desirable for many reasons, only F-1 students who will work are eligible to apply for and receive a card.
