Concordia College participates in the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program. This program provides grants up to $3,716 per year for undergraduate and graduate students who intend to teach full-time in high-need subject areas for at least four years at a school(s) that serve students in low-income school districts.
In order to be eligible for the TEACH Grant at Concordia, you must have already taken or be enrolled in Education 210 - Foundations in K-12 Education. This class is generally taken during the sophomore year. During the class, students apply for and are accepted into the Teacher Education Program.
The following are the TEACH Grant requirements:
- Must teach in a high-need field, such as foreign languages, science, math or special education, and
- Must teach in a low income school district (Title 1 - see a current listing - click on the SEARCH button), and
- Must teach for four years within eight years of graduation from the teacher education program, and
- Must meet GPA or ACT/SAT requirements
- It is unlikely Elementary Education majors are eligible for the TEACH Grant, as the student must spend more than 51 percent of his or her time teaching in a high need field.
There are two exceptions:
1. Elementary education majors planning on teaching bilingual classrooms,
2. Elementary education majors with science or math specialties intending to teach in a middle school setting with the majority of their day is spent teaching math or science.
If you receive a TEACH Grant and you do not fulfill these requirements, the Grant will convert to a Federal Unsubsidized Loan at 6.8 percent interest as of the day the Grant was disbursed.
TEACH Grant application procedures:1. Complete the Concordia College TEACH Grant Application. 2. Contact Loralee Carpenter in the Concordia College Education Department and set up an appointment to meet with her. (218-299-3911 or firstname.lastname@example.org). Bring your completed TEACH Grant Application and a copy of your ACT/SAT results to this appointment. 3. Complete TEACH Grant Counseling (located at https://teach-ats.ed.gov), Click on "My TEACH Grant" to begin Counseling 4. Complete and sign the Agreement To Serve (ATS) (located at https://teach-ats.ed.gov). You will need your Federal Student Aid PIN to login to the TEACH website.
To renew the TEACH Grant, each year you will need to complete Subsequent Counseling and the Agreement To Serve. If you did not meet the 75th percentile requirement on the ACT/SAT tests, then you must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 each semester.

Once you have completed the TEACH Grant Counseling and ATS, they will be sent electronically to the Concordia College Financial Aid Office and the TEACH Grant will be awarded at that time. Remember that your financial aid from all sources cannot exceed the Cost of Attendance ($42,964 for 2013-14). If the TEACH Grant puts you over that limit, the Financial Aid Office may need to reduce your loans.
