Heating and Cooling Plant

Berg Steam Plant is a central heating and cooling plant operation.  It houses three Cleaver Brooks 900 horsepower high pressure boilers, as well as two Cleaver Brooks low pressure boilers rated at 400 horsepower and 300 horsepower respectively.

Steam systems are connected across campus via a tunnel system and underground piping. We also have two 1,000 ton York chillers and a smaller 250 ton chiller to provide chilled water for air conditioning to buildings across campus connected to our chilled water loop.

Our HVAC team and boiler operators provide the operation and maintenance for the boilers and chillers, as well as all campus air handling systems, cooling towers heat exchangers, steam distribution systems, exhaust fans, refrigeration systems such as ice machines, freezers, refrigerators and more. We are also responsible for the operation and upkeep of the Building Automation Systems that control the heating and cooling processes for campus buildings.
