2008 Young Organists Week
June 15-19
Help the youth in your congregation develop the musical and leadership skills to become church organists. Concordia’s Young Organists Week, open to students entering grades seven to 12, is an exciting week designed just for that.
For nearly 20 years, youth have attended the camp to learn new music, fine tune their playing skills, take workshops from talented organists and connect with other young organists from around the region. Young Organists Week seeks to draw more junior high and high school students to the organ, encouraging them to play for their home congregations and consider a lifelong pursuit of the instrument.
Youth are expected to be reasonably proficient on the piano, but do not need to know the organ well. They will be introduced to organ literature appropriate for their level and receive instruction in the basics of accompanying hymns and leading liturgy.
Congregations frequently cover the cost of the camp for their youth.
The week includes:
• Daily classes with special emphases on hymn playing, liturgy and repertoire
• One private organ lesson and one group lesson
• Piano and organ student recital (participation optional)
Cost and Registration
The cost is $305, which includes tuition, dorm room stay, music and all meals (including dinner Sunday through lunch Thursday). A $50 nonrefundable deposit, which is applied toward the total cost, must accompany each registration form. The balance of $255 is payable at registration the first day of Young Organists Week.
This event has been canceled. Registrations will no longer be accepted. For additional information, contact Kristen Grove at the Office of Church Relations at 218.299.3146.
