Eboo Patel to Speak on Campus
Aug 21, 2012
Renowned interfaith leader Dr. Eboo Patel will be on campus Thursday, Aug. 30.
Patel will address the campus during Opening Convocation at 9:20 a.m. in Memorial Auditorium. His address will focus on "Acts of Faith," his first book and Concordia’s first community book read. He also will give a public lecture at 7:30 p.m. in the Centrum, Knutson Campus Center, on his new book, "Sacred Ground: Pluralism, Prejudice, and the Promise of America."
“Acts of Faith” is a memoir about living out one’s faith in a diverse America. In a world plagued by religious conflict and hate, Patel proposes that hope for the future lies in the path of interfaith cooperation and interfaith dialogue, and lays out a roadmap to help us find our way to a much longed for peace.
“Sacred Ground” illustrates that Americans have been interfaith leaders since George Washington and even though suspicion and animosity toward American Muslims have increased since 9/11, faith can be a bridge of cooperation.
Named by U.S. News & World Report as one of America’s Best Leaders of 2009, Patel is the founder and president of Interfaith Youth Core, a Chicago-based global organization for young people.
