The Rev. Elizabeth McHan was installed as Concordia’s associate campus pastor Oct. 30.

The Gospel text for the service was from John 20, where Jesus tells the disciples, “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

The text is a reminder that pastors are called to lead worship and care in a community, but also to reconcile the community to its neighbors and to speak the truth in love, said President William Craft, who delivered the service’s sermon.

“You come to remind us that God is everywhere, in every time,” he said.

The Rev. Larry Wohlrabe, bishop of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod, presided at the installation.

McHan has served for the past two years as communication assistant to the Rev. Dr. Munib A. Younan, bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land and president of Lutheran World Federation, through the Global Mission unit of the ELCA.

McHan graduated from the University of Alberta, Canada, with a Bachelor of Music degree in violin and viola performance.

Following a year of graduate study at the Universität Mozarteum, Salzburg Austria, in viola performance, she attended Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa, where she completed a Master of Divinity degree.

Her seminary internship year was served in ministry at the American Lutheran Congregation in Oslo, Norway, through the Horizon International internship program of the ELCA.
