Better Together Receives Award

bet Better Together, Concordia’s interfaith organization, has won a national award for its work in engaging dialogue among all sectors of the campus.

The club received the Biggest Campus Impact award from Interfaith Youth Core, founded by interfaith activist and author Dr. Eboo Patel, who spoke on campus at Opening Convocation last fall.

Better Together encourages learning about similarities and differences among faith traditions while serving others.

“We promote interfaith literacy based on honest dialogue between people of different faith and non-faith traditions,” says Robyn Adams ’16, Littleton, Colo., the 2013-14 co-president of the organization. “Then we build on these relationships to serve the community based on our common values.”

Adams says another goal is to create leaders who can help create opportunities for interfaith growth on campus.

Better Together won praise from Patel’s group for the “tremendous amount of recognition and respect” the club received on campus last year, including having the 2012-13 co-president Kristi Del Vecchio ’13, Bismarck, N.D., invited to speak at Commencement.

The group was complimented for leading presentations in Religion 100 classes, for presenting at campus symposiums and school conferences, and for playing a critical role in supporting the recognition of secular students on campus.

Better Together will receive $500 and two free registrations to attend the annual Interfaith Leadership Institute hosted by Patel’s organization, which teaches students how to become effective leaders and engage with interfaith on campus.

“We can use this opportunity to create more leaders who can continue to inspire other students on campus. We hope this award will help us grow,” Adams says.
