CONCORDIA LANGUAGE VILLAGES GERMAN
YOUTH SOCCER PROGRAM CORRECTION
      
       Waldsee, Concordia Language Villages’s German language village in Bemidji, Minn., will host the FC Bayern München soccer challenge from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14. (Please note the date change from a previous release). Also, the previous release did not note that the event is free and open to youth ages 12-16 (both villagers and non-villagers). Participants will have a unique opportunity to put their Fussball (soccer) skills to the test, all while learning German language and culture. A complimentary German lunch will be served following the program.
       Same-day, on-site registration will be available. Participants are asked to arrive by 9:30 a.m. to register.
       Soccer coaches from Germany will be on hand to run position-specific drills selected by German professional soccer club Bayern München players. Participants who pass these individualized tests receive certificates featuring the specific player; winners receive a Bayern München jersey. Bayern München is one of the most successful clubs in soccer history, and 2013 European Cup champions.
       Waldsee in Bemidji, Minn., is one of six U.S. locations selected as a pilot site for the program in 2013. In collaboration with FC Bayern München, the German Embassy to the U.S. and Auf Balhöhe, an NGO German youth soccer organization, Concordia Language Villages is also sponsoring pilot camps in Portland, Colorado Springs, Colo., Chicago and Mount Prospect, Ill. and Ellenville, N.Y
       Dan Karl Hamilton, dean of Waldsee, anticipates a successful pilot program that will provide the opportunity for Waldsee to join as a U.S. partner for Bayern München’s worldwide kids’ soccer program. Each May and June, the program brings talented youth from around the world to Munich to meet and train with the team.
       “This year’s participants will have a chance to develop their skills, and possibly have a ‘leg up’ on the 2014 program,” Hamilton says.
       Concordia Language Villages, a program of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., is a recognized leader in global education offering 15 world language programs. Concordia Language Villages attracts more than 10,000 youth, educators and adults annually from all 50 states and more than 40 countries. Youth ages 7-18 and adults of all language experience levels can take advantage of on-site learning options ranging from a weekend to four weeks.
