CONCORDIA STUDENTS SELECTED AS 2013 PEACE PRIZE FORUM SCHOLARS
     
      Anastasia Young '14 and Nikolaj Hagen '14 will represent Concordia in the 2013 Peace Prize Forum Scholars program June 17-Aug. 2 at the University of Oslo's International Summer School, Norway. Students will receive a general introduction to peace and conflict studies, and to the work of peace organizations and institutions in Norway.
     Young, the daughter of James and Deborah Young, Butte, Mont., is majoring in nursing and religion. She sees this as an opportunity to explore living out her vocation and one of the things she looks forward to is the week that they’ll spend in Lillehammer participating in religious dialogue with students from the Balkans/Caucasus regions. This past year she served as one of the interfaith scholars at Concordia and is excited to learn from other students through the dialogue.
     Hagen, the son of Daniel and Dorte Hagen, Osakis, Minn., is majoring in political science and Scandinavian studies. He hopes to someday work in the Foreign Service. International relations have always been an area of special interest to him and this program will give participants the chance to discuss issues regarding war and conflict resolution with like-minded students. He’ll also have the opportunity to take classes from the International Summer School in Oslo. He believes both the academic portion of the program and its location in Scandinavia made it look like a perfect fit for his areas of interest. 
     The students were introduced at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum, held earlier this month in Minneapolis. Each year two students from Augsburg, Augustana, St. Olaf and Concordia, and one student from Luther College are selected as peace scholars.
