CONCORDIA COLLEGE TO HOLD COMMENCEMENT
Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., will present approximately 588 bachelor’s degrees and ten master of education degrees during its commencement ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5, in Memorial Auditorium. Roxana Saberi ’97, author, journalist and human rights advocate, will speak at the ceremony.
Saberi has spoken across the United States and traveled to Europe, South America and the Middle East to speak with the public, media and government officials about human rights violations in Iran. Living and working in Iran since 2003, Saberi was working on a book in 2009 when arrested and sentenced to eight years in prison on a trumped-up charge of espionage. She was released after an Iranian court overturned her sentence.
Saberi has been honored with several awards and published her book “Between Two Worlds: My Life and Captivity in Iran,” in 2010. She grew up in Fargo, N.D., and after earning her degree from Concordia in communication and French, she earned her first master’s in journalism from Northwestern University and her second master’s in international relations from the University of Cambridge.
Concordia College is a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offering more than 60 majors, including 18 honors majors and 12 preprofessional programs.
