STUDENT LECTURE ON “CAN MOZART MAKE MYELIN?”
Seniors Elizabeth Quincer and Bradley Peterson will present the final lecture in this year’s Student Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in Morrie Jones Conference Suite A-B, Knutson Campus Center. The lecture “Can Mozart Make Myelin?” is free and open to the public.
Multiple Sclerosis is the most common demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS) and is characterized by loss of myelin-producing cells and plaque formation. Current treatments attempt to mitigate loss of myelin, but are not a cure and can have unwanted effects. Quincer and Peterson studied whether music as passive environmental enrichment induces a physiological response in the CNS. This novel research linking passive environmental enrichment to physiology may have important implications for neurodegenerative diseases.
Quincer and Peterson’s faculty sponsor is Dr. Krys Strand, biology.
