CONCORDIA LIBRARY TO PRESENT FILM AND DISCUSSION IN CONNECTION WITH MUSLIM JOURNEYS BOOKSHELF COLLECTION

The Carl B. Ylvisaker Library will present a viewing of the film “Koran by Heart: One Chance to Remember,” by Greg Barker. It will be followed by discussion with Dr. Mona Ibrahim, Dr. Ahmed Afzaal and Dr. Yahya Frederickson from 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in Jones A/B in the Knutson Campus Center. The event features the resources in the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys, a collection of materials from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Library Association (ALA). The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend and use to the Bookshelf collection.
The Bookshelf program aims to familiarize public audiences in the United States with the people, places, history, faith and cultures of Muslims in the United States and around the world.
Major support for the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf was provided by a grant from Carnegie Corporation of New York. Additional support for the arts and media components was provided by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art. The library is working in fellowship with Concordia’s Forum on Faith and Life.
The Carl B. Ylvisaker Library is one of 840 libraries and state humanities councils nationwide receiving the Bookshelf and hosting programs for public audiences featuring the materials. The library is located just west of the bell tower on Concordia’s campus.
