FACULTY VOICE RECITAL AT CONCORDIA
The music department at Concordia College will present a faculty recital titled “Remembrances” by Dr. Paul Hindemith, instructor of voice, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in Christiansen Recital Hall.
Hindemith, baritone, will be joined by soprano Dr. Elise Hepworth from Wayne (Neb.) State College and pianist Dr. Andrew Fleser from McNally-Smith College in St. Paul, Minn. They will perform selections on themes of death and transcendence by 20th and 21st century American composers, including Bernstein, Copland and Minnesota composer Libby Larsen. Hindemith’s songs are all based on poetry and writings of Walt Whitman, while Hepworth’s poets include Emily Dickinson, Christina Rossetti and others.
Hindemith’s professional career has taken him from coast to coast performing opera, oratorio, operetta, musical theatre and art song. He has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, San Diego Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Ohio Light Opera and the Fargo-Moorhead Opera. A passionate and dedicated educator, Hindemith taught at Omaha North High School and the University of South Dakota prior to his position as instructor of voice at Concordia.
The recital is free and open to the public.
