On a High Note

Laura Pancoast ’13, Thief River Falls, Minn., aspires to teach voice to college students one day. Her summer job at the Central City Opera, Central City, Colo., is providing her with valuable networking every day. “Working for one of the major summer opera companies will help in meeting people and making connections,” she says.
Pancoast was encouraged to apply for the position by her voice professor, Dr. Holly Wrensch, and a fellow student. She won one of 14 positions – from a pool of more than 300 applications. The hardworking Cobber says her experience in customer service at her hometown Hardware Hank helped her land the position.
While her day-to-day duties don’t put her at center stage, this 19-year-old is making headlines as the youngest staff member at the opera company. She was recently featured in the June 13 edition of the New York Times.
