Helping Out with Habitat

Mar 21, 2011

habThis spring, more than 100 Cobbers spent their mid-semester breaks helping those in need across the United States and internationally through Habitat for Humanity. Students traveled to sites in Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, Illinois, Florida, Mexico and Jamaica to build homes for families who need them.

“Service learning is the number one way to build teamwork skills,” says Noah Ford-Dunker, a participant in the trip to Prattville, Alabama. “And it helps the community.”

Though much of their time was spent working on the houses, the students enjoyed themselves by learning new skills and getting to know each other. “The biggest highlight probably is having ten great new friends,” says Ford-Dunker. “We all got really tight-knit right away and we spent the week building those friendships.”
