Go, Grease Lightning
Nov 08, 2011
Bryan Duncan is some kind of procurement expert.
When the Concordia Theatre needed a vintage 1950s auto for several scenes in the upcoming musical “Grease,” he knew just where he could find one. Duncan, the campus lighting director, merely had to call his relatives.
“We’re lucky,” he says. “Finding a 1953 Desoto PowerMaster in completely original condition is like finding gold in a coal mine. Finding it on my sister-in-law’s farm is even crazier.”
And thanks to the owners of the car, Doug and Lorinda Morrison of Kathryn, N.D., the PowerMaster is now sitting on the theatre stage, a main prop of the set. The vintage car will play the role of “Grease Lightning” in a couple of scenes in the musical.
“The DeSoto fits the time period of 'Grease' perfectly,” says director Jennifer Thomas.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Nov. 10-12 and 17-19 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 13. Tickets are on sale now at the theatre box office. Call (218) 299-3314 between 1 and 6 p.m. Monday-Friday or email thrtix@cord.edu.
