A Blessing of Thanksgiving
Apr 26, 2011
After serving and leading during a year of transition, Dr. Paul Dovre and Mardy Dovre received blessings from the campus community as they journey down a new path.
A crowd of students, faculty and staff gathered to thank them during the last chapel service before the academic year ends.
Dovre served as president of Concordia for 24 years and has served as interim president twice. His second interim term will end in July when Concordia's president-elect begins.
"You are a steadfast reminder that Concordia is not just an institution of higher education," said Erik George '11, 2010-11 president of the student body. "It is a community grounded in Christ that is here to nurture and develop the mind, body and spirit.
"From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank you for your relentless dedication, sacrifice and compassion that you have given to Concordia," he said.
The students then placed a Concordia towel around Dovre's neck – a token of appreciation and a tradition among seniors.
"Thank you for the blessing. Thank you for your presence," Dovre said. "Thank you for the privilege of serving you again. Soli Deo Gloria."
