Students Have Lunch with Next President

Mar 30, 2011

As Dr. Bill and Anne Craft entered Anderson Commons, they received a warm welcome.  Students applauded; there were welcome banners and a special cake in honor of their first lunch with students in the main dining facility on campus.

President-elect Craft and his wife, Anne, seemed right at home as they joined two tables of students in front of the fireplace, which was decked out with Cobber memorabilia. Dr. Craft said having lunch with the students was perfect because it speaks to why he took the position to become Concordia's 11th president.

"I've been a teacher all of my professional life," Dr. Craft says, "and the relationship between the faculty, staff and students is the heart of what we do. For me, being able to be with students on this celebratory day is just terrific."

The students seemed to agree. Many took the opportunity to greet Dr. Craft and Anne as they walked to get their lunch. The Concordia mascot, Kernel, even stopped by to say "hello," which surprised and delighted the couple.

"Dr. Craft is such an energetic spirit on campus," says Erik George '11, student body president. "It is great to finally have him here and to welcome him to the community."

After greeting dozens of students and nearly every staff member they encountered, the Crafts were presented with Concordia sweatshirts which they promptly put on, resulting in hearty cheers from the students.
