Scoring Big at Concordia


Jared Hoeft ’13, Hutchinson, Minn., scored big. His musical score “Shards” was performed by The Concordia College Symphonia this winter.

Though composing for a symphony may seem like a large undertaking, Hoeft started at age five, only a year after starting piano lessons, and currently has an arsenal of music larger than his age.

“I’ve been composing music since I was old enough to reach the piano keys,” he says.

Hoeft enjoys being a student at Concordia, where his music professors allow him to undertake large projects.

Hoeft, who plays piano and percussion, received his first commission in 2009 when he wrote a three-part piano solo for the Hutchinson School District. Currently, he composes for the Concordia Percussion Ensemble.
