One Day Without Shoes

Apr 09, 2010

shoes3Concordia students shed their shoes April 8 to raise awareness about the importance of shoes. The TOMS Shoes event, called "One Day Without Shoes," was presented by the TOMS@Concordia student organization.

Many children in developing countries grow up going barefoot. The TOMS Shoes Web site talks about the many benefits for children to have shoes such as preventing soil-transmitted diseases, which are prevalent in developing countries. Also if their feet aren’t protected they can develop cuts and sores, which if not covered can become infected. shoes1

Concordia's event explained the TOMS shoes one for one program, as well as the importance of getting shoes to the millions of people who do not have them.

"It's an easy way for people to get involved in a cause," says sophomore Jordan Lutz, Ada, Minn., one of Concordia's organizers of the event. "And not just on our campus."

The video about Concordia’s "One Day Without Shoes" event was also featured as a CNN iReport.
