The changing of seasons always brings about a familiar excitement. Students instinctively dust off their frisbees and bare their feet to delight in the warmer spring weather.  Kate Running ’10 recently seemed to be fueled by the instincts of a different species.nestcl

Running, a senior art student, spent her day precariously suspended from a tree in a nest she built for her senior art project.  When asked why, she said, “I don’t feel that people see really bizarre things very often, and I thought it would be good for everyone.”  The nest, Running says, was inspired by the weaver bird, which construct elaborate nests.

nesttreeSwaying in the wind, Running was able to observe other passing classmates and their reactions. “It was interesting to see that some people would stop and look at it for a while, some would come and talk, and some would walk right on by,” Running says. Now that her day in the life of a bird has come and gone, she has dropped from the nest and hit the ground running.

Running’s nest, along with the work of the rest of the senior art students, will be displayed in the Senior Art Show opening April 20 in the Cyrus M. Running Gallery.
