Choir Records CD with King's Singers
Feb 15, 2010
The Concordia Choir recorded a CD with the internationally acclaimed ensemble The King's Singers. In celebration of The King’s Singers 40th anniversary, the group commissioned three new compositions to commemorate the occasion. The ensemble and The Concordia Choir joined for a Feb. 9 performance at Concordia. They later recorded the CD, “High Flight,” at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead. The CD will feature compositions by noted contemporary composer Eric Whitacre, former King’s Singers tenor Bob Chilcott and Dr. René Clausen.
“I’m honored by it all,” says Clausen, director of The Concordia Choir. “To be on the same CD as composers like Whitacre and Chilcott, and to have the choir appear on an international recording with the King’s Singers is a big thrill. It’s an elevating experience for us all.”
Clausen says the choir was very motivated by the opportunity. “They knew they would be working with a world class ensemble, so they worked very hard,” he says. “They knew that this was a special gift given to them. We all feel very fortunate, very honored to be a part of this concert and recording.”
