Kernel Cheers for Red Kettle
Dec 07, 2010
Three mascots. Three kettles. One cause. Exchanging banners for bells, The Kernel, Scorch and Hawkeye competed side by side to raise more than $4,400 in the third annual Mascot Challenge for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. The Kernel rang his bell attempting to get the most money in his kettle. And even though Hawkeye was filling in for NDSU’s Thundar, who was away at a playoff game, he won the battle for the Bison, forcing the opposing athletic directors to sport NDSU’s green and gold.
But the biggest victor was the Salvation Army, who was grateful for the challenge’s success in assisting the Fargo-Moorhead community.
“The Mascot Challenge was a wonderful, fun-filled and creative way for the athletic departments of our local college to raise funds for the Salvation Army,” said the Salvation Army’s Capt. Bill Mealy.
