Faculty Art Used in Worship Services

Feb 15, 2010

The artwork of Concordia faculty is being featured in chapel this semester to better portray this year's Campus Ministry theme, "Create in Us."

“We wanted something visual that would spark and provide contemplation for each month’s theme,” says Terry Pipho, office manager for the Campus Ministry Office.

The monthly artwork is displayed during chapel and communion in the Centrum.

Art professor David Boggs’ painting of muffins represented January’s theme, “simple joy.” Boggs says the painting features modest subject matter meant to cause viewers to consider ordinary objects as extraordinary, a fitting description of the monthly theme.

“By not providing an attractive or even visually interesting surrounding, I required a viewer to devote all attention and consideration to the subject in an almost meditative way,” he says.

Upcoming visually represented campus worship themes will feature faculty artwork by Duane Mickelson and Heidi Goldberg.

Hungry for more faculty artwork? The annual faculty art exhibition runs through Sunday, March 7, in the Cyrus M. Running Gallery.
