CONCORDIA CELEBRATES MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY

The Concordia College Student Government Association announces the schedule of activities celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday, Jan. 17. The Concordia community will address societal issues and cultural awareness by examining King's legacy and its effect on the world today.

 

Schedule of Events

8:30-9:40 a.m.             "How Relevant is Gandhi to Today's World? A Study of Contemporary India" - Sudhir Selvaraj '11 (Centrum)

9:50-10:20 a.m.           Chapel (Centrum)

10:30-11:40 a.m.         Keynote: "A Deeper Black: The Meaning of Race in the Age of Obama" - Ta-Nehisi Coates (Centrum)

11:50 a.m.-1 p.m.        "Invisible Children" Video and Discussion (The Maize)

1:20-2:30 p.m.             Keynote: "Dr. King's Dream" - Mixed Blood Theatre (Centrum)

Ta-Nehisi Coates is a young author and editor specializing in black history and politics. He is a regular contributor to The New York Times Magazine and Time.             Based out of Minneapolis, Mixed Blood Theatre uses theater as a means of illustrating social issues and calling for change. "Dr. King's Dream" is one of the group's travelling productions that incorporates Martin Luther King Jr.'s books, sermons and letters.The production will be followed by an interactive discussion period to further engage students.             All events at this annual celebration are free and open to the public. Most events are located in the Centrum, Knutson Campus Center except where noted.
