PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE AND MARIMBA CHOIR
TO PERFORM ANNUAL HOLIDAY CONCERT

The annual Concordia College Percussion Ensemble and Marimba Choir Holiday Concert, directed by Dr. David P. Eyler, will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 in Memorial Auditorium.
The popular concert will include Christmas favorites such as “The Christmas Song” and “Away in the Manger.” Other selections include “Crown of Thorns” by David Maslanka and the regional premiere of “Liturgical Music For Percussion” by David R. Gillingham. The piece is for large percussion ensemble in six movements, each inspired by Biblical scripture or sacred readings.
The Percussion Ensemble will also perform the compelling “At The Dawn of War” by Kevin Erickson. Erickson began work on the piece in 2000 intending to create a piece depicting different episodes in a day of war. A brief hiatus from the piece was followed by the tragic events of September 11 and Erickson, fueled by a flood of emotions, finished the work. Though inspired by that fateful day, the piece depicts American offensive efforts in war, not any particular war or act of war, and is dedicated to the heroic men and women who gave of themselves in the aftermath of September 11.
