ART EXHIBITION BY SISTERS AND CONCORDIA ALUMNI

Concordia College’s art exhibition “Nude Truths: An Odyssey of Poetry and Painting by Mary Ylvisaker Nilsen and Kristi Ylvisaker” opens Friday, Sept. 24 and runs through Friday, Oct. 22 in the Cyrus M. Running Gallery. A reception will be held in the gallery from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1 with a Gallery Talk at 5 p.m.
“Nude Truths” documents a moving odyssey of words and images conceived by sisters and Concordia alumni Nilsen and Ylvisaker. Inspired by the poetry of Denise Levertov, they drew upon words that evoke the profound journey from innocence, through the darkness of ignorance and suffering, to the light of truth and “mature serenity.” They began the journey from their respective sides of the Atlantic (Kristi Ylvisaker in Norway, and Mary Nilsen Ylvisaker in Iowa) and met in the United States to finish the project in 2004. The exhibition has traveled throughout the U.S. with popular reception.
The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information contact the Art Department at (218) 299-4623.
