CONCORDIA SYMPOSIUM TO FOCUS ON WONDER IN TODAY’S WORLD
Though conventional wisdom has long predicted that science, technology and modernization will drown out all sense of mystery, magic and marvel, popular culture is instead full of enchantment. Join the Concordia College community for the 2010 Faith, Reason and World Affairs Symposium, “Awakening to Wonder: Re-enchantment in a Post-secular Age,” Sept. 14-15 in Memorial Auditorium on the Moorhead, Minn., campus.
Enchanting films such as Harry Potter and “Twilight” to those based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s Ring epic and more recently James Cameron’s “Avatar,” are wildly popular; scientists increasingly speak a language of wonder and awe as they widen our view of the natural world; and there is a widespread resurgence of religion in a world that was supposed to be growing more secular. This year’s symposium will explore the role of wonder in today’s world.
All sessions are free and open to the public. With the exception of concurrent sessions, all events will be held in Memorial Auditorium.
Concordia College is a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offering 78 majors, including 18 honors majors, and 12 preprofessional programs.
