CONCORDIA TO HOST FARMERS MARKETS OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY
Beginning July 13, Concordia College will host weekly Farmers Markets in the Atrium of the Knutson Campus Center. The markets will be held on most Tuesdays and run from 4-7 p.m. The dates of the market for summer and fall of 2010 are as follows:
• July 13, 20, 27
• Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31
• Sept. 7, 14, 21, 28
• Oct. 5, 19
• Nov. 9 “100 MILE-THANKSGIVING”
During the fall of 2009, Concordia hosted several Farmers Markets on campus featuring organic and local foods and products from members of the Fargo/Moorhead area and surrounding communities providing fresh and healthy food options and a unique opportunity for students to connect with community members committed to local and organic products.
This summer, two student interns who have been working to establish Concordia's first student-led organic garden have also been working to expand Concordia's Farmers Markets into a weekly market open to the outside community.
Products featured included beef, apples, potatoes, tomatoes, hot peppers, leeks, honey, sweet corn, peanut butter, and candles. The Farmers Markets have proven to be very popular with faculty, staff, the community and especially with students.
