CONCORDIA WIND BAND INSTITUTE CONCERT
The fourth annual Wind Band Institute at Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., will conclude with a concert featuring Minnesota’s 451st Army Reserve Band at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 30 in Buxton/Hanson Hall, Hvidsten Hall of Music. The concert is free of charge and open to the public.
The 451st Army Reserve Band, performing as ensemble-in-residence, is stationed at Fort Snelling, Minn., and is part of the 88th Regional Support Command headquartered at Fort McCoy, Wis. The band, comprised of select musicians from the Upper Midwest, has the reputation of being one of the top organizations in the military band program. The members come from many walks of life with diverse professional careers and all share a love of music and pride in serving their country as soldiers in the United States Army Reserve.
The 2010 Wind Band Institute, June 27-30, offers band directors from around the country an opportunity to improve their teaching skills. The institute will be led by founder Dr. Scott A. Jones, director of bands at Concordia. Guest clinicians include composer Brian Balmages and educator Douglas C. Orzolek, chairperson of music education, University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn. A number of Concordia faculty will also present instrument-specific master classes and sessions. More information about the institute is available at www.windbandinstitute.com.
