DAY OF PERCUSSION AT CONCORDIA
The Concordia College Musical Organizations and Department of Music will celebrate 20 years of Day of Percussion 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Saturday, April 17 in Memorial Auditorium on the Moorhead, Minn., campus. Featured guests include Bob Becker, Sammy K and John Tafoya. The day’s activities, including clinics and performances, concludes with the Concordia Percussion Ensemble and Marimba Choir concert at 4 p.m. featuring some of the guest artists.
The Day of Percussion is presented in cooperation with Eckroth Music, Percussive Arts Society, Grover, Pearl, Remo, Sabian, Yamaha and Zildjian.
Bob Becker is founding member of NEXUS, xylophone virtuoso and African percussion. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Eastman School of Music. GRAMMY-nominated musician Sammy K, began his professional career at age 13. He is a drum set artist and teacher. John Tafoya, chair of the percussion department and professor at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, is a former timpanist for the National Symphony Orchestra and has held previous principal timpani positions with several other organizations.
All activities and performances throughout the day are free and open to the public.
