Concordia Launches Innovative Virtual Tour Experience

Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., has released a new Web site virtual tour that integrates the latest video- and flash-driven technology with a highly personalized online experience. Tabbed the Virtual Tour Experience, the interactive presentation features HD video, dynamic special effects and the talents of five student tour guides. The project was completed in partnership with Sundog Inc., Fargo, N.D.

Online visitors can choose from five separate tours that show the various walking paths to signature destinations throughout campus. Using advanced green screen technology, the five student guides each host their own tour, stopping at high interest locations to provide commentary on the places, programs and people that define Concordia. Each tour runs about 3 minutes.

“We wanted to create something much more dynamic and engaging than your typical virtual tour,” says Roger Degerman, senior director for Communications and Marketing at Concordia. “Our student guides make the experience compelling. They give the tour energy and authenticity.”

Prospective students and parents are the primary targets for the Virtual Tour Experience. Web traffic analysis will be used to measure its effectiveness in driving prospects to visit, apply or get more information. “Our virtual tour experience isn’t meant to replace the campus visit — it’s designed to entice it,” says Degerman.

Since its “soft” launch Feb. 15, The Virtual Tour Experience has drawn Web traffic from all 50 states and 30 countries including Australia, Canada, China, France, India, Norway, South Africa, Spain and the United Kingdom. Concordia is launching a series of e-Campaigns this week to drive key audiences to the VTE. The video is streaming over a nationwide CMS at 720p HD quality. You can see the Virtual Tour Experience at www.ConcordiaCollege.edu/experience.

Concordia College is a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offering 78 majors, including 18 honors majors, and 12 preprofessional programs.
