PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION AT CONCORDIA

The Concordia Department of Art presents the photography exhibition “Encounters: Photography by Sheldon Green” Thursday, Nov. 12-Sunday, Jan. 24 in the Cyrus M. Running Gallery located in the Francis Frazier Comstock Theatre building on campus. A public reception will be held 4:30-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17 in the gallery. Green, senior writer and Concordia’s campus photographer, will speak at 5 p.m. during the reception.
“Encounters” features portraits of people encountered through the college’s study abroad programs and documents Green’s developing skills as a photographer who seeks ways to authentically interact and depict cultures across the world. Locations range from crowded streets in India to small villages in Tanzania’s safari country, to farmers markets in China and ornate mosques in Egypt. Green’s work covers a 13-year period from 1994 to 2007. An exhibition catalog, including all 50 photographs with Green’s personal reflections, anecdotes, and revelations associated with each image, is available for purchase.
Gallery hours are 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. For more information call the Art Department at (218) 299-4623.
