CONCORDIA CELEBRATES MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY
In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Concordia College welcomes Arthur Romano in a series of lectures and workshops. He will speak on “Moving a Mountain: Dr. Martin Luther King’s Ideal of the Beloved Community” at 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 19 in the Knutson Center Centrum.
Romano founded Youth for Peace, an Internet-based program that for young people to share inspiration and information related to their own community projects and has collaborated with various organizations, including the Gandhi-King Season for Nonviolence. He is a certified Kingian nonviolence trainer through the Association of Kingian Nonviolence Educators and Trainers. Romano holds degrees in philosophy, political science and conflict resolution and is currently a World Peace Scholar in England.
The following is a list of the day’s activities all located in the Knutson Center Centrum:
o 8:30 a.m.—Dr. Martin Luther King and Nonviolence-Exploring a Hidden History, Arthur Romano
o 9:50 a.m.—Memorial Worship Service
o 10:30 a.m.—Dr. Martin Luther King’s Opposition to War-Connecting the Local to the Global, Arthur Romano
o 1:20 p.m.— Experiential Diversity Session, TOCAR
o 2:40 p.m.—The Civil Rights Revolution in Historical Perspective, Dr. Eric Burin, associate professor of history, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, N.D.
o 8 p.m.—Moving a Mountain: Dr. Martin Luther King’s Ideal of the Beloved Community, Arthur Romano
