Scholarship Information for New Conductors


The Wind Band Institute will be offering two full-tuition scholarships for junior high and high school conductors completing either their first, second or third year. WBI recognizes the importance of professional development during these formative years of a teaching career.

If you apply, you have an excellent chance of obtaining a scholarship! It's worth your time.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Currently employed full-time teaching wind band
2. Completing either first, second or third year of teaching

Application procedure:

1. Submit a brief résumé of undergraduate band activities and accomplishments, including name, address, phone number and e-mail address.

2. Submit a maximum 700 word essay answering the following two questions:

  • What is your philosophy of wind band music education?
  • How will this experience will help accomplish your professional goals?

3. Applications must be received by the deadline and may either be e-mailed or mailed to:

Application materials will not be returned. Those awarded scholarships will be notified by June 1, 2009. Applicants are responsible for their own transportation, housing and meals.

You don't have to have gone to New Orleans to attend Jesus Justice Jazz: The Tour. All are welcome to experience a powerful time of music, storytelling, and service designed to inspire young people to be the hands and feet of Jesus in their communities and beyond. Youth will be chalalenged to identify how they can live their baptismal call as beloved children of God and how they can live a life of Jesus-centered justice. Features music by ELCA Youth Gathering artists Agape, LOST AND FOUND, and Rachel Kurtz, and powerful youth testimonies. This event promises to be an effective way to re-ignite the hearts of Gathering participants and others that need encouragement on their faith journey.
