The Concordia Band
The Concordia Band, under the direction of Dr. Peter J. Haberman, is one of Concordia's oldest and most distinguished performing ensembles. Since its formation in 1899, the band has earned national and international recognition, including in 1935 when it was the first Concordia music ensemble to tour abroad.
In addition to frequent home concerts, the band tours nationally each year and internationally every few years, including a recent tour of Norway. In 1999, The Concordia Band celebrated its 100th anniversary with a tour that included travel and performances in Iceland, Russia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden and Norway. The ensemble completed its fourth tour of Norway in May 2007 and became the first Concordia Ensemble to tour China in May 2012.
The band has performed for the national conventions of the Minnesota Music Educators Association, the College Band Directors National Association, and the Western International Band Clinic. In addition, the band has performed with many guest artists and conductors, including The Canadian Brass, Allen Vizzutti, Dr. Frank Ticheli, Mark Camphouse, and Johan de Meij.
Membership in the ensemble is open to all students, regardless of major. Musicians are selected by audition at the beginning of each academic year. Rehearsals are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:10 - 6:30 p.m.
You can enjoy a performance by The Concordia Band on campus and in cities across the nation during its annual domestic tour.
