The Concordia Band: 2012 ChinaTour

The Concordia Band enjoyed a very successful performance tour of Hong Kong and China from May 10th to the 24th of 2012!  The first stop of the tour was Hong Kong, where the band rehearsed at the Hong Kong International School.  Concert performances took place at the United International College in Zhuhai, the Sichuan International Studies University, Chongqing Number 30 High School and Southwest University all in Chongqing, and the Communication University of China in Beijing.  Other places that the band visited included the Panda Research Center, Leshan Buddha site, Great Wall of China, Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.  A highlight of the cultural experience for the band members was a home stay in Chongqing, organized through the Sichuan International Studies University.  Faculty Soloist on the tour was Dr. Jay Hershberger, who performed Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" with the band.  As noted by one of the band members, “Sitting on stage hearing the enthusiastic applause from the packed audiences who had never heard a concert band before, I realized how similar people are everywhere and how truly blessed we band members were to be experiencing this in China.”
