Meslow Receives Inaugural Sent Forth Award

Sara Meslow '92 is the first recipient of the Sent Forth alumni award. This award is given to young alumni who are living out the mission of the college through excellence in their field, faith and community.

Meslow is the founder and executive director of Camp Odayin. As a lifelong camper and heart patient, she discovered her calling in founding the only camp in the Midwest for children with heart disease.

Meslow has a bachelor’s degree in social work and communication, as well as a master’s in youth development leadership from the University of Minnesota. She served as an elementary school social worker in Forest Lake, Minn., and volunteered at a summer camp for heart patients in California before her mother suggested she start her own in Minnesota.

Camp Odayin, founded in 2001, serves more than 350 people annually with camp programs in Cross Lake, Minn., and West St. Paul, Minn. Meslow believes in the positive impact summer camp can have on everyone, especially children with special health concerns.

Meslow will be invited to campus during May Commencement to help “send out” the class of 2011.

Greetings From the National Alumni Board

We all hope this edition finds you preparing for spring and another season of growth and renewal wherever you may be.

In January, the Alumni Board reviewed the nomination lists for the Alumni Achievement Award and selected our very first Sent Forth recipient, Sara Meslow. As a board we continue to be humbled by the stories of success and service in the lives of our alumni nominees. They have truly been “sent forth” in this world and are living the mission of our college.

We also heard about a number of initiatives under-way at the college. From the creation of the Offutt School of Business to the new annual scholarship opportunity announced by the Advancement Office to help future Cobbers afford their education today and tomorrow, there is much to celebrate!

With spring just around the corner, we look forward to seeing many of you at Corn Feeds and other college events in the coming months.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Adam Gilbertson ‘99
President, National Alumni Board
