Concordia College Accreditation
Accreditation Update: September 19, 2012
As has been noted previously, the Criteria for Accreditation of the Higher Learning Commission have five separate categories. Under each criterion are a series of core components and subcomponents, in all totaling 21 core components and an additional 58 subcomponents. As part of our reaccreditation process, Concordia College needs to provide evidence that it meets all of these. During the next few campus updates, we will be providing a little more detail about each of the Criteria for Accreditation.
The second criterion is centered on the integrity of the institution of higher learning. "The institution acts with integrity; its conduct is ethical and responsible." The Commission analyzes this criterion from multiple perspectives, including the study of our policies relating to finances and budgeting, our fairness in dealing with personnel, and the clarity and transparency with which we present ourself to the public.
The Commission also looks at our Board of Regents to ensure that it possesses sufficient autonomy to act in the best interests of Concordia College, that it avoids conflicts of interest, and that it grants administration and faculty authority to attend to the day-to-day management of the college. Additionally, the Commission expects that institutions are committed to academic freedom and that all personnel "acquire, discover, and apply knowledge responsibly."
Any comments relating to this criterion are welcome and should be directed to any of the members of the Self-Study Steering Committee.
A booklet describing all of the requirements of the Higher Learning Commission can be found here. If you have questions about the Higher Learning Commission or Concordia’s approach to the self-study, please direct them to either of the coordinators - Kristi Loberg and Michael Wohlfeil - or to any of the members of the Self-Study Steering Committee.
