Institutional Review Board (IRB)
Detailed Instructions and Resources
The primary concern of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) is the protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects in research. When reviewing a research protocol, the Concordia College IRB considers the following factors:
- The risks to the subjects and others, and the procedures used to minimize risk, including procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of the subjects
- The anticipated benefits to the subjects and others, and the importance of the knowledge that may reasonably be expected to result
- Whether or not the risk to benefit ratio is acceptable or appropriate
- The equitable selection of subjects
- The subjects recruitment process, including freedom from coercion
- The informed consent process and related documents to be employed
- The measures taken to ensure the privacy and confidentiality of the research subjects and the security of the research data
- The provision for keeping record of all study documents for three years
The IRB Committee uses the IRB Protocol Review Checklist in determining whether to approve a research protocol or not.
