Thanks for taking the time to get to know Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. We know how tricky it can be to find the college or university that best matches a student's strengths and interests, so we want to help you answer the question,
"Why recommend Concordia?"
We hope you'll find that Concordia's career-focused
liberal arts education (including 12 preprofessional programs in
medicine,
law,
engineering,
dentistry and more), vibrant
campus life, world-class
study abroad program and impressive graduate school acceptance record are an attractive fit for a wide range of students.
Who We Are
Our more than 2,800 students come from 38 states and 40 countries and represent 43 different religions and denominations. Thirty-one percent come from the top 10 percent of their high school class.
Our picturesque 120-acre
campus is located in
Fargo-Moorhead, which is home to more than 23,000 college students, hundreds of restaurants, movie theatres and museums, professional sports teams and plenty of shopping. It's also an economic boomtown, providing more than 400 great internships a year for Concordia students and perhaps the perfect job at graduation.
What We Teach
A Concordia education is a "practical" liberal arts education, blending a strong tradition in the arts and sciences with hands-on career training in a rigorous, globally focused curriculum. With 78
majors and minors (including 18 honors majors) and 12 preprofessional programs -
medicine,
law,
engineering,
dentistry and more - we have the ability to serve a wide variety of interests and career goals.
Our nationally recognized
faculty members are dedicated mentors. They work closely with individual students to develop their academic focus and find their professional calling. Students work side-by-side with faculty on hands-on
research projects that have resulted in three recent Goldwater scholarships and numerous published scholarly papers.
Central to the Concordia experience is our award-winning
study abroad program. Fifty-four percent of our students go abroad - that's 25 times the national rate. When living and studying abroad for a week, month, summer, semester or year, our students learn new languages and gain a global perspective that will be an asset to any career or calling.
What We Do
Nearly a third of all Concordia students participate in our world-renowned
music program, which includes 17 major vocal and instrumental ensembles. Our professional music faculty give over 700 private lessons a week. Some musicians are music majors; many are not.
Athletics are also huge at Concordia, with 22 men's and women's NCAA Division III
sports teams, 11
intramural sports and a state-of-the-art
athletics and fitness center.
As a
Lutheran college welcoming to people representing all forms of religious expression, we also encourage our students to actively engage in their matters of faith. Through
Campus Ministry, students can chose from a wide variety of worship and praise services and get involved with numerous volunteer and community service organizations.
What We Achieve
Concordia
alumni are currently studying in the country's best graduate and professional schools - Yale, Johns Hopkins, MIT. That's because a Concordia education is catered to meeting the professional and academic goals of the individual. Tell us where you want to go, and we'll get you there. Just look at the numbers:
- 88 percent acceptance rate into medical school (in 10 years surveyed)
- 93 percent of graduates get into law school.
- 88 percent of students who start and finish at Concordia graduate in four years.
- 96 percent of surveyed graduates have jobs in their field or are in graduate school within six months of graduation.
