The department offers exciting learning opportunities that go beyond classroom experiences and include interaction with native speakers at the Norwegian conversation table and participation in the Scandinavian Club. Besides on campus activities, Concordia offers long- and short-term study abroad programs, May seminar, and optional practical training in Skogfjorden, the Norwegian Language Village.
Conversation Table
It is a great opportunity to practice language skills in a friendly and relaxed environment together with two native speakers and other students. The conversation table takes place twice a week for two hours every semester.
Scandinavian Club
Welcomes everyone interested in Scandinavian culture and traditions, history and heritage, politics and business. It is a student-run organization that participates in various events on campus, such as Homecoming parade, decoration of Christmas Tree Lorentzen, and Christmas Fair. The club also gets together for movie nights, folk dancing and arranges road trips. Knowledge of Scandinavian is not required for becoming a member of the club.
Summer Job at Skogfjorden
Students have an option to apply for a position of a program leader in Skogfjorden, the Norwegian Language Village. It is a rare opportunity to work and practice language skills. The students may earn an independent study credit that will count toward their major / minor in Scandinavian Studies / Norwegian if they choose to conduct a research project during their employment in Skogfjorden. May Seminar
The department Norwegian & Scandinavian Studies is offering a new May Seminar “Green + Peace = The Nordic Way”. The seminar focuses on peacemaking and environmental policies in the Nordic countries.

Scandinavia and the Baltic (One Semester)

This semester abroad will allow you to study Scandinavian history and culture to fulfill Concordia’s integration and 300 level religion requirements just few hours away from Oslo, Norway. Each the faculty of Hamar College and guest lecturers offer courses in English on Scandinavian and Baltic political, economical, and cultural relations.
You will have the chance to travel for several weeks to several exciting countries of the North Atlantic and Baltic Seas. These include trips to Copenhagen, Helsinki and St. Petersburg. University of Oslo International Summer School (Six weeks)
Oslo, Norway
The International Summer School, located in the metropolitan city of Oslo, Norway, annually brings together more than 500 students from more than 90 countries. Living and studying together at the University of Oslo, students may choose undergraduate courses in Norwegian language or English courses in culture, literature, history, art history, politics, international relations and contemporary social issues. Graduate courses (also taught in English) are offered in media studies, peace research, international development studies, international community health, special needs education, energy planning and sustainable development.
