Recent Department Research and Activities
- Dr. Mikel Olson conducted a research program evaluating memory consolidation and reconsolidation in nonhuman animals. His journal article, “MMP-3 elevation following passive avoidance conditioning is necessary for associative memory consolidation” was published in Regulatory Peptides.
- Dr. Mona Ibrahim is a member of the steering committee for the Arabic Language Villages, Concordia Language Villages, conducted a study on the effectiveness of the Arabic Language Village. She presented her research at the Association for Psychological Science in Washington, D.C. on May 25, 2007.
- Dr. Susan Larson was the recipient of a research award from the North Central Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. This award has funded research on the cognitive impairments associated with autoimmune diseases.
- The Disaster Psychology Research Team, led by Dr. Susan Cordes Green, investigated the experiences of students who volunteered for a trip organized by campus ministry in the New Orleans recovery effort after Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Cordes Green presented her findings at the Concordia College Colloquium Series.
- Students Catherine Erickson ’07 and Lisa Wehofer ’07 presented their research paper, “When Reaching out Reaches Within: Effects of a Disaster Volunteer Experience” at the Minnesota Private Colleges Scholars at the Capitol attended by Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty.
- Dr. Lisa Sethre-Hofstad traveled to Oslo, Norway with students during spring break. The Exploration Seminar was part of her Development Psychology course and which allowed her students to study development in Norway.
- Dr. Albert Bartz has been working with colleagues at Merit Care and Augustana College (IL) investigating personality factors in expression of asthma. He presented his work to the Midwestern Psychological Association.
- Psychology professor and Chair of the Division of Sciences and Mathematics, Dr. Mark Covey is a also rescue squad/firefighter volunteer. This work is an extension of his professional interests in crisis response, stress management, group formation and activity in emergency situations.
