Manning: Research

I use the Concordia 2MeV Hypervelocity Dust Particle Accelerator  to study many different aspects of the solar system. It can also be used in terrestrial experiments. Some of the research projects I have done using the accelerator include:

  • simulating a dusty environment like what one might find around a comet or the rings of a planet
  • testing equipment to see if they function in dusty environments in the solar system
  • performing basic research to better understand impact processes occurring when microscopic inter-planetary dust particles collide with icy bodies in the solar system.
  • understanding the impacts of dust on ceramics and piezoelectric pins.
