Provide Clear Expectations
Guiding students in their resource choices
Librarians can support faculty in guiding students toward appropriate resources for their projects. Especially with regard to electronic databases, students are more successful when they understand what kinds of resources they need to use in their research: do they need articles that include a research methodology; should the articles be peer-reviewed; do students need to find both primary and secondary sources for their topics? Librarians can reinforce faculty members’ pedagogical goals by showing students how to evaluate sources to meet these assignment-specific standards.
