The student who is information literate accesses information efficiently and effectively.

Help students develop good research questions, discussing search terms from specific to general, keywords, synonyms. Teach the use of the Library catalog, library and online indices. Develop a list of possible sources of information such as standard reference tools and Web sites identified by the teacher. Teach about different types of dictionaries. Teach students to begin a web search with Search Engines for Students. Teach "tricks" of searching, such as use of wildcards, Boolean operators. Review using alphabetical order and the Dewey Decimal System. Know when not to use the Internet. |
