Three Tracks of Study
Select a global studies track that best meets your interests and goals.
Study abroad is encouraged, but not required, for each of the tracks.
Global Systems and Issues
If you’d like to explore the institutions, norms and practices that transcend individual states and civilizations and shape the interactions – social, political, economic and religious – of the people and states of the world, this is the global studies track for you. You will not only study the evolution of those arrangements (including institutions such as the United Nations and World Trade Organization), you will also be encouraged to think about the implications of current trends for the future of these institutions.
Ten course credits are required for a global studies major in this track.

- Scandinavian Studies
Eight course credits are required for a global studies major in this track. Not included in those credits is a language requirement linked to the particular region of study.

Worlds in Dialogue
Explore and compare the histories, narratives, beliefs, norms and practices that are unique to distinct geographic regions and cultures. Through this process, you’ll come to understand how divergent experiences and belief systems serve to differentiate one society or civilization from another. You’ll also consider whether those differences might become sources of conflict or provide resources for a world lived in common with others.
Ten course credits are required for a global studies major in this track.
