Requirements for a Major in Elementary Education
The major in elementary education prepares students to be recommended by the Concordia College department of education for Minnesota licensure to teach in grades K-6. To be eligible to take 300-level EDUC prefix courses and complete this major, the student must first be admitted to the Teacher Education Program. The requirements for a major in Elementary Education requires 65 credits:

Add-on Endorsement Options for Elementary Education Majors: K-8 World Language and Culture Endorsement License
Students majoring in elementary education have the option of completing an add-on endorsement in one of the five World Languages. Each add-on endorsement program prepares students to be recommended for licensure in that world language in grades K-8. Each add-on endorsement requires a separate application for licensure. All students (except those seeking licensure in Latin) must attain the intermediate-high level of oral proficiency as defined by the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Students demonstrate oral proficiency through an examination given by the respective language department. Students who do not attain the intermediate-high level will not be eligible to be recommended for this licensure. Concordia College offers this add-on endorsement in French, German, Latin, Norwegian, and Spanish.
World Languages – French requires 24 to 26 credits:

• SPAN 341 – The Culture of Spain, 2 credits
• SPAN 361 – Latin American Views, 2 credits
• 4 additional credits in Spanish, 200-level or above
• EDUC 363 – FLES Methods of Teaching, 4 credits
• A minimum of one semester of study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country is required.
Core Content add-on endorsements to Elementary Education Major
Approval to offer middle-level (grades 5-8) add-on endorsements has been given by the Concordia College Faculty Senate. At the time this catalog went to press, the process of approving these programs from the state of Minnesota Board of Teaching was in progress.
